Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's first championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
