Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important official stated the incident left him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
